Antitrust mulls tariff deregulation for intl airport services

MOSCOW, Mar 3 (PRIME) -- The Federal Antimonopoly Service has suggested deregulation of tariffs for some airport services at international airlines in Russia’s regions to stimulate direct international flights without connections through Moscow, the service’s Deputy Director Alexander Redko told PRIME on Tuesday.

“The draft ruling suggests maintaining state regulation of services that ensure takeoffs, landings, and parking of aircraft, provision of the airport terminal, ensuring airport security and servicing of passengers at domestic air lines,” the draft ruling read.

The changes will not cover Moscow, the Moscow Region, St. Petersburg, and the Leningrad Region as the government already canceled state regulation there.

“The majority of air transportation to international destinations is done through the airports of Moscow that were deregulated in 2015. In order to balance competitive conditions and to create conditions for an increase of direct flights and for attraction of new airlines, we offer deregulation of airport services at the international flights from regional airports,” Redko said.

“Taking into account competition between direct flights and transit routes through Moscow, we expect no price growth for these services.”
